It is absolutely essential that you only ever use images that you are licensed to use in your design work. It doesn’t matter who has created the design – if your company is associated with the illegal use of an image, you could be landed with a very hefty fine, especially if the license is owned by one of the big players in the field.

There are lots of resources you can use to find images that you are legally able to use. Stock image libraries are very affordable and contain millions of high-quality images that can be used on websites, in marketing literature and on business cards.

If you want to use something a little more specific, you may need to obtain a license and print from the person who owns the rights to it. This could set you back a lot of money, so weigh up how important it is to use that particular image in your design work.
